Agawa Canyon Rails and Ontario Boat

August 01 - August 11, 2007 - (11 days)
Day 1
We leave the Maritmes this morning, travel along the St. Lawrence River
to La Belle Province and Quebec City where we'll enjoy a buffet dinner
this evening.
Day 2
This morning we'll journey to Montreal, then travel north into the
Laurention Mountains to the village of Mt. Tremblant, in the shadows of
the mountain that gives its name, on Lake Mercier, for overnight. Enjoy
a ski lift ride to the Upper part of this pedestrian village and walk
down on the cobblestone streets. Enjoy some shopping time at the
various boutiques this evening amid this mountain splendor.
Day 3
This morning we'll have a drive-thru on our coach in the nearby Omega
Wildlife Park. See bear, moose, deer, and other wildlife in natural
settings. We'll make a stop in Montabello for lunch at the historic
Chateau said to be the largest log cabin in the world, on our way to
Ottawa, Ontario for the night at our centrally located hotel. Take a
leisurely walk along the Rideau Canal this evening, or visit the local
shops or the Rideau Center Shopping Mall.
Day 4
We'll enjoy a tour around Ottawa,this morning, seeing the Parliament
Buildings with their green copper roofs, monuments, Rideau Falls and
drive by the Prime Ministers Residence and along the canal. Later we
travel west past Pembroke, and Mattawa to North Bay, where the Dionne
Quints were born, for the night. This evening we'll have dinner at the
Science Centre and enjoy a performance at the Imax Theatre on site.
Day 5
Westward we go past Sudbury, home of the Big Nickel, along the shores
of Lake Huron to Sault Ste Marie where we'll spend 2 nights. This
evening we'll have a dinner cruise on the St. Marys River through the
amazing marvel of the Soo Locks where the difference between Lake Huron
& Lake Superior is 21 feet.
Day 6
We'll board the train this morning for an all day excursion to the
Agawa Canyon, 114 miles north of Sault Ste Marie, over towering
trestles, along pristine rivers, and gigantic rock formations . At the
Canyon we'll enjoy lunch on the train and have time to look around this
scenic canyon, before arriving back in Sault Ste Marie after dinner.
Day 7
Travelling east to Espanola we travel across Manitoulin Island, the
world's largest fresh water island to the town of South Baymouth,
crossing Georgian Bay, with is many islands, by the ferry Chi-Cheemaun
to Tobermory on Bruce Peninsula with its limestone cliffs, part of the
rocky spine of the Niagara Escarpment. Watch for turkey vultures and
peregrine falcons soaring above the unusual rock formations and
terraced boulder beaches. We'll overnight in the nearby valley area of
Owen Sound.
Day 8
We'll take a short drive to the beautiful countryside near Bright, then
enjoy a noontime dinner and a Gospel Show at The Walters Family Dinner
Theatre put on by this very talented family of entertainers in their
Entertainment Barn on beautifully landscaped grounds. We'll overnight
near the city of gigantic city of Toronto.
Day 9
We'll travel past Toronto along Lake Ontario, pass Kingston and the
Thousand Islands area, stop at the SkyDeck Observation Tower and spend
the night and have dinner at our favorite hotel in Cornwall.
Day 10
Travelling past Montreal, and Drummondville, we spend the night in
Riviere du Loup.
Day 11
Homeward bound with memories of our Ontario Rail & Trail
Adventure!
