St. Lawrence Cruise and Magdalen
Islands
June 15 - June 23, 2007 - (09 days)
Day 1
We leave New Brunswick, cross the Confederation Bridge to Prince Edward
Island and spend the night in Charlottetown and enjoy dinner at a
nearby restaurant.
Day 2
Our adventure begins as be travel to Souris, and go by Ferry to
Cap-aux-Meules, one of the Magdalen Islands, a journey which will take
about 5 hours. We'll stay at the Chateau Madelinot, with it's ocean
view and friendly atmosphere, for the next 3 nights near the town of
Fatima which has about 2700 inhabitants. Dinner is at our hotel this
evening.
Day 3
The Archipelago of the Iles de la Madeleine is in the middle of the St.
Lawrence River about 215 km from the Gaspe Peninsula, 105 km form
Prince Edward Island and 95 km from Cape Breton. The island chain
composed of about a dozen islands, six that are connected with sand
dunes, take the shape of a fishhook for a distance of 65 km. Today
we'll have a local guide join us for a tour of this place of sand
dunes, golden beaches and red crumbly rocky steep slopes. You'll marvel
at the randomly scattered bright colored houses that show the Acadian
and French origins of the people. You'll learn what a Baraque barn is
and see fishing vessels. After exploring for the day, we'll enjoy a
delicious dinner.
Day 4
You'll learn more of the Island today, have time to shop for souvenirs
in Fatima, and our island's 2 more villages. We'll see the wooden
church of Laverniere, on the the biggest wooden churches still existing
in North Americal and Site d'Autrefois (Yesterday's Typical Site).
We'll visit the Market Place with its unique shops and terrace
restaurant. See the Etang- du-Nord lighthouse and visit the
Interpretation center La Barachois. While in the area, you'll see more
churches, aquarium, Museum of the Sea.. Back to our hotel for a
delicious dinner.
Day 5
Enjoy a day with a guide exploring more of the island, visiting a
Salmon Smoke House, visiting other parts of the Island seeing sweeping
dunes and sandy beaches. Late this afternoon we'll board the
cruise/ferry vessel the M.V. CTMA Vanancier. This 12000 ton vessel is
126 meters long, has 220 cabins, 8 decks, fitness, room, reading room,
games room, convenience store and information area. As well there is a
movie theatre on board, an observation deck, entertainment and a
naturalist guide. Our comfortable staterooms have a private bath. While
on the ship, all meals are included. Breakfast, lunch and snacks are in
the cafeteria while dinner is served in the Dining Room with a
different menu every night. We leave these beautiful islands tonight to
cruise the St. Lawrence.
Day 6
We'll cruise the gaspe coast with a stopover in Chandler. Enjoy a local
tour or visit shops that are nearby with free shuttle service from the
ship. While in the Gaspe area we get a close up view from the ship of
Bonaventure Island and The Rock at Perce.
Day 7
As we continue down the St. Lawrence River, we'll have a stopover in
Quebec City. The ship docks at the foot of Dufferin Terrace in Old
Quebec. Enjoy a tour of the area or browse through the shops in Artists
Alley or walk along the boardwalk by the Chateau Frontenac.
Day 8
Continuing along the St. Lawrence, we arrive in Montreal this morning.
After disembarking we'll continue to River du Loup, Quebec for
overnight.
Day 9
Homeward bound with memories of our cruise/island adventure.
Included: All taxes,
transportation, accommodations, attractions as listed, baggage
handling, all breakfasts, 4 dinners, all meals on cruise ship.
